Control-Alt-Delete anyone?
So been busy and only now have gotten around to my Windows instalment of my issues with OS's. Afterwards check out 5 Problems with Mac OS
1. (Not Responding)
Now the biggest association from other fanboys is the blue screen of death, but really I haven't had that once in the past 3 years. Maybe minds are stuck in the 90's with dodgy hardware and XP, but it doesn't really happen that much anymore. But a bit more subtle and very frequent is the "Not Responding" and fade out when doing very little sometimes, or even its responding just fine. For me its like the chugger in the street, you are walking through town minding you own business thinking up creative ways to spend you paycheck and suddenly "CAN I HAVE 5 MNUTES OF YOUR TIME?". If you are in a creative mode or working with numbers you don't want a compete halt of your system right in the middle of a train of thought, or experience the painful recovery of a file.
2. Anti-Virus
So bad things lurk in the darkness of downloads, I always say the most important anti-virus is your brain. But what I find on many machines is download from very suspect sites and riddled with pop-ups and trojans. But then the anti-virus software itself, firstly the crappy pre-installed version of McAfee and Norton that will drain so system resource, and still let them through unless you pay the fee of course (AVG free is better than both of them for all you out there).
3. Vista
Really doesn't need explaining
4. The Learning Curve
Now this for me really isn't a problem but for many it is. Windows, unlike Mac, is an operating system that really has to be learnt. You have to spend time understanding how to do things, setting up networks, personalising and managing software for example. Without Google I don't think a lot of people would be able to anything with their machines.
5. Care and Attention
With time and the installation and uninstallation of a multitude of programs, some good and some bad, will leave the play pen that is Windows with the odd bit of lego from old browser application to the spilt Ribena of a horrific package from a printer company. With this, no matter how much cleaning you do you will face the inevitable of back up and reinstall. The painful few days will come into focus as you try and open a PDF and remember that you haven't got a reader, go to watch a video and you haven't got that particular codec and my favourite having to open Internet Explorer to download another browser.
Please comment and read the rest of my blog, I enjoy doing this and hope you enjoy reading.
